In an attempt to create a BuzzFeed account, a friend of mine ran into some unexpected trouble. Following every possible manner of creating an account (connecting via Google+, Facebook and “the old fashion way” of creating a username and password) only to receive error messages like “an error has occurred” and “trouble creating account.”
This turned out to be the result of BuzzFeed’s overzealous “guilty until proven innocent” IP address blacklisting. This is no doubt the result of the creation of too many spam accounts burdening the team over at BuzzFeed. If you’re running into this issue, contact their technical support (unless of course, your IP address is blacklisted for a good reason).
